Translation: I have worked as a translator since 2007, at first on staff at one of the world's largest law firms, and subsequently as a freelancer handling a wide variety of texts and subject matter. I translate Russian and German texts into English, and my main area of concentration is law (contracts, court rulings, memos and so forth), but I also do other, mainly business-related translations. I have been a member of the American Translators' Association since 2008. Hardest text I've translated: Russian patent litigation dealing with acupuncture needles. Most unusual assignment: translating university diplomas from Latin.
Writing: I have published numerous articles in different venues (see samples here, and a list of the publications I have appeared in here). However, you are probably here because you are interested in writing that has a commercial purpose. Whatever project you have in mind, please get in touch with me and we can discuss it. I am a member of the Society of Midland Authors.
Editing: Most of my editing has been with legal and financial texts, although I also have experience with journalism (both print and TV) and literary writing. I do everything from simple proofreading to in-depth editing that requires considerable re-writing. In both cases a flat fee applies, though this can be negotiable.
Training: Good writing often involves hands-on training, so I've led seminars for people who have to write for their jobs and need to get better at it. Seminars led by me have included such topics as teaching lawyers how to write for publications aimed at general readers; instructing freelancers on how to create material for language-teaching programs; and helping law and business students with the finer points of e-mail usage. If your employees need to be able to write and communicate more effectively, please get in touch.
